7pin electrics. the most common of the towing sockets. used on most trailers, cycle carriers and trailer tents. a 7pin is your basic socket to run your light functions on (excluding reverse)
you get left and right sidelights
brake lights
indicators
and rear fog
Twin electrics are normally found on older style caravans and have two seperate sockets,
a black 7pin socket controlling the basic light functions and a grey socket. The grey socket contains the reverse light feed and also switched feeds and a constant live to power the caravans fridge and charge the leisure battery whilst towing.
13pin electrics is the new style of towing socket. It’s a single style socket so looks neat and tidy and is now used on newer style caravans, trailers and cycle carriers. a 13pin contains all lights including reverse. Fridge feed and charging feeds also. a brilliant all round option that also sets you up for the future. adapters can be used to convert to 7pin and also twin
universal electrics are made in the three socket variaties and will fit almost any vehicle. They use a smart relay where applicable and also a split charge relay. both systems are separately fused meaning your vehicles lights and electrics are protected against the towbar wiring. all of our universal kits are soldered into your vehicle and not scotchlocked. this is the cheapest option and works alongside your vehicles electrics to power your trailer or caravan. if your vehicle is still within its warranty period we recommend dedicated vehicle wiring.
dedicated vehicle wiring is made to plug into a vehicles already provided electronics and utilises all of the manufacturers features. this option is the best for a vehicle that’s brand new or still within its warranty. most vehicles will have to have the towbar software installed once fitted which we can do with our westfalia auto data. most Kits will auto shut off the rear fog light and reversing sensors when towing
